Starting as a symbolic lights out event in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour is now an annual event and the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, inspiring millions of people to take action for our planet and nature.
To mark 2019 Earth Hour, the Africa Alliance of YMCAs in partnership with WWF, Kutoka Network and St.John Sports Society organized an environmental sensitization forum and cleanup in Korogocho on 30th March 2019. The environmental sensitization forum was held at St.John Catholic Church, Korogocho and thereafter the clean-up in the same locality.
The event was a paper and plastic smart activity in order to reduce the footprint of the activity, participants were encouraged to bring their own refillable water bottles and a smart phone for sensitization as no paper was allowed.
Each year, people around the world participate by taking action on different initiatives that will create a brighter future for our planet. From pushing for environmentally friendly laws and policies to crowdfunding for a better future, the power of people’s voices and actions make Earth Hour possible. Coordinated by WWF and other volunteer organisations, Earth Hour’s greatest strength is the power of people.
